Exercise improves health and fitness for kids, just as it does for adults. The President’s Council and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that infants, toddlers and preschool children should be active at least 60 minutes a day and should not be sedentary for more than 60 minutes at a time while awake. Most of the 60 minutes of exercise for kids should be aerobic activity, such as running or brisk walking. Some muscle strengthening -- such as gymnastics, playing on a jungle gym and doing push-ups -- is also good. Playing jump rope is a good exercise to strengthen bones.
